Vow renewals deserve their moment: Eri Maldives on when to say "I do" again
Nobody needs a reason to fall in love with their partner all over again, but finding new reasons to do so, season after season, is part of what makes a relationship special. According to UK wedding platform Bridebook, one in five couples now waits until their first anniversary to take a honeymoon, allowing finances time to settle after the wedding itself. As a result, anniversary holidays and vow renewals have become an increasingly important part of romantic travel, with couples often choosing longer, more immersive celebrations than their original wedding day allowed.
At Eri Maldives, vow renewals are given the attention they deserve, offering couples the opportunity to celebrate their relationship in a way that reflects their own story. Whether planned as a surprise or incorporated into a milestone celebration, the resort offers three distinct ceremony packages designed to suit different occasions.
The five-year reckoning
For couples who married between 2020 and 2022, the occasion carries particular significance. Many weddings during this period were scaled back, livestreamed, or celebrated with only two witnesses and a registrar joining remotely. Five years later, many couples are reaching a natural milestone and may wish to enjoy the celebration they had originally imagined.
Eri Maldives' Waves of Love package (from £1,235++) offers just that. The experience includes a beachfront ceremony led by the resort's Ceremony Master, accompanied by traditional Bodu Beru drummers, a symbolic ring exchange, the presentation of a commemorative certificate, a champagne toast, and a romantic dinner set on the beach.
The new chapter & the quiet comeback
Not every vow renewal is tied to a calendar date. Some follow a health scare, a period of living apart, or a challenging financial year. Others mark quieter transitions, such as children leaving home, retirement, or relocating.
For couples celebrating these moments, the Eternal Love package (from £1,457++) builds upon the Waves of Love ceremony with additional touches suited to the occasion. These include a candlelit beach dinner, a shower of rose petals, a bottle of Prosecco awaiting arrival in the villa, a 45-minute healing aromatherapy treatment for the couple, and traditional Maldivian sarongs presented as keepsakes to commemorate the journey they have shared.
The anniversary that deserves an upgrade
Whether celebrating a 10th, 25th, or another significant anniversary, some milestones deserve something truly memorable. For couples who have spent years building a life together, the Ocean Kiss package (from £1,755++) offers Eri Maldives' most comprehensive vow renewal experience.
The package transforms the celebration into a day-to-night experience, featuring a five-course beachfront destination dining experience with lobster and wine, followed by either a floating breakfast or lagoon breakfast the following morning, as well as a one-hour Balinese massage for two.
Beyond the ceremony
Each vow renewal package can be further personalised with a selection of romantic experiences and entertainment. Optional additions include a private sunset cruise with champagne and canapés, live music from a duo band or DJ, a professionally filmed drone highlight reel of the celebration, and, for couples seeking a truly spectacular finale, a three-minute fireworks display.
Whether arranged as a surprise or planned together from the outset, Eri Maldives allows couples to focus on celebrating the moment while the resort takes care of every detail.
